A new chapter for Together Mission has well and truly began. The start of the connexional year saw us join with Bowburn Methodist Church in a Together Weekend, midweek, a first for us as a team and also the first Together in the Darlington District one of our key partners in equipping and empowering the church through Together.
We began on Wednesday evening with a meal of pie and peas followed by toffee sponge and custard this was kindly prepared for us by the ladies of Great Lumley Methodist Church. Around half of those invited were able to share with us in that first session, an opportunity to get to know each other, share testimony and be reminded again of the God we first encountered. There was a real warmth during that session and an eagerness to seek God in all things.
Thursday saw us meet together in the morning as part of the drop in and toddler group, a great way in which the church seeks to support their community. Some of those who attend the drop in had previously brought their children to the toddlers. One ladies children were now preparing for University, clearly the sense of community and welcome was enduring. We were blessed to be joined by some of the drop in attendees for our second session after lunch focussing on prayer.
After just enough time for a nap we joined back together for the third session, an opportunity to look inwardly, to consider how Bowburn as a church family is. We talked about the nature of family, the importance of community and how fundamental that is if we want to reach out.
Friday night and our final session together, the evening started with a Fish and Chip Supper, no better way to start! Our final session really dug deep, seeking to address how we talk openly about Jesus to those who don’t yet know him, we spent time in prayer thinking of those we would share Jesus with. We also used postcards to write down part of our story, not to stick on the fridge as a warm reminder, but as a little spark of inspiration to be given to someone else, in the hope it would ignite a faith in Jesus for them. Both myself and Elaine were encouraged by our time with Bowburn, a congregation small in numbers but mighty in Faith.
Please join us in praying for Bowburn as they now take steps out in faith to bring others to know Jesus.
